4. Menopause, where women tend to experience more symptoms than men of the same age.

5. Home environment, such as devices that dry out the air, like fans or air conditioners.

6. Medications, including antihistamines, antidepressants, blood pressure medications, acne treatment, and birth control pills.

7. Abnormalities of the eyelids that don’t close completely when blinking or sleeping, which can be caused by aging or after surgery, leading to dry eyes and corneal ulcers.

8. Smoking increases the risk of dry eye disease, retinal degeneration, and cataracts.

9. Other health conditions, such as diabetes and thyroid disorders.

10. External environmental factors like weather or strong winds.

11. Frequent air travel, as the air inside airplanes is very dry.
